My work is still in the idea of the problems that are happening in Bali, social, cultural, political and others have talked about before. In this work there is a shadow of the worst on this earth and this island if we all did not improve attitudes and our mindset, no dubbed the Bali paradise lost could actually become a reality, and of course we all do not want a worst thing that happens is’t it? Hope for the emergence of a solution of all problems still exist and may hope not only false hope. A little solution in the field of art I try to offer, not only in ideas but in practice by utilizing waste plastic as a medium in my art, using the concept of reuse, reduce and recycle as a powerful concept in the "fight" the concept of materialism and consumerism where the ownership of new goods stuff be the size of the primary and one of the main problems in this small island is rubbish, the culture in our society do not have the concept of waste recycling. This may not provide the solution significantly to overcoming the problem of garbage, but at least give another discourse of how to see problems and find solutions.
I myself have never forced my children to draw, I realized when watching he scribble on the walls of the room, the kitchen to the bathroom, and even sometimes my paintings are not spared from its vandal process. But unfortunately also if the existing potential is not maximized, by facilitating the child so that his talents can be honed to the maximum.
On his age of 2 years Damar is able to visualize the animals that he meant, for some reason he really loves the pig, the animal often appeared in his sketch from the beginning, the horse is also a favorite animal other than cattle and buffalo, then comes the interest to the Barong, Ranggda, Celuluk are mitological creature in Hindu Bali believe and other creatures like ogoh-ogoh (a large monsters figure during the pengerupukan day) also, now more complicated, he started to tell me joy, and capture the experience during we gone somewhere, and then came home and asked for a sketch book to visualize what he saw with a distinctive visual language of the children.
My wife is basically the same, she graduated from art education at Institute of Art in Denpasar, but 3 years she very rare work in painting, occasional work only for the group exhibition. His works from the outset it talk about matter whether it's women as a target of consumerism, it's a beautiful concept should correspond to those in the magazines or television, slim, white skin and other standards are labeled. The work now more on the role of Balinese women, as mothers are not only in the service of her husband but also her duty to provide education for their childrens, how Balinese women are always busy with the rituals that would not want to run let alone, then he married and facing new situations and conditions in her husband's house, face her mother in-law and family of her husband. With this exhibition the moment I want to push her back to paint, not for anyone, but to demonstrate to our son especially art that is an interesting thing and it same with other knowledge, many people think that smart or intelligent kids if they only good in mathematics, chemistry and others, the culture in our society never appreciate a person's talent in arts, whatever art is closest to the everyday life here. With art we can do many things for this world, whether he will want to follow in the footsteps of his parents or not, but at least he had the sensitivity, skills and confidence in challenging life in the future.
